Minneapolis – February 27, 2017 – Adam Faitek, resident of Minneapolis for 10 years and nonprofit executive, announced today his candidacy for Minneapolis City Council representing Ward 13.

“Equity, inclusion, and respect are the values guiding my campaign to represent Ward 13, ” Faitek said. “Right now chances are if you’re a person of color, an immigrant, or making a non-livable wage, you’re feeling incredibly vulnerable. It’s a crucial time to decide how we should move ahead as a city.”

Faitek, who lives in East Harriet, believes Minneapolis needs a progressive voice who can bring people together to achieve results for residents and local businesses. If elected, he would champion equity-based policies and focus his time on being responsive to the concerns and needs of Ward 13.

“I am running because I want to work with residents as a City Councilmember to create a stronger Minneapolis for everyone,” Faitek said. “Minneapolis is an amazing place to live and work and I want to make sure that access to affordable housing and a livable wage is available everyone, regardless of age, race, or income.”

Having spent the majority of his career in the nonprofit sector, Faitek has a deep understanding of the issues facing Minneapolis, from food insecurity to tax policy to predatory financial services like payday lenders and check cashers. Through that work he has overseen fundraising of millions of dollars and recruited hundreds of volunteers that have improve the financial security for tens of thousands of Twin Cities residents.

For six years Faitek has served on the board of the East Harriet Farmstead Neighborhood Association where he has led efforts to bring new businesses to the area, started an annual block party, and helped to secure funding for the neighborhood community school and recreation center.

“My professional and community efforts has given me years of experience in working to improve the lives of working families in our City,” Faitek said. “That experience, along with my collaborative approach, set me up to move forth policies that create equity for all.”

Faitek lives in East Harriet of Minneapolis with his wife, Molly, and their 14-year-old dog, Buddy.
